8271 Ethernet Lan Streamer Switch : Summary

The IBM 8271 Ether Streamer Switch provides eight Ethernet ports plus an expansion slot.The switch can be rack mounted or stacked. Each Ethernet port can support a shared 10BASE-T segment when attached to a 10BASE-Trepeater such as the IBM 8222 Hub.Each port can also support a dedicated, 10-Mbpslink operating in HDX or FDX mode. Multiple switches can be interconnected in a tree configuration for larger workgroups. As with the 8272, the expansion slot in the 8271can be used to add additional Ethernet copper or optical fiber ports or to add high-speed, uplink ports .Optional uplink ports include 155-Mbps ATM, 100-VG Any LAN, and 100BASE-TXlinks. The switch supports adaptive cut-through operation independently at each port. Packets are routed to a destination port based on the destination MAC address.
